YC- Challenge 1

Youth Challenge 2010 was ended almost two weeks, but now only i have the time to write down what i have gone through this program.

I am going to KL meet point to gather with them since i don't know how to go USM from AT. At the moment i reached UTMKL, a lot of memories come into my mine and this make me happy. After that, i saw 6 people sitting and chatting at Dataran Ilmu there, they seem like the participants for YC but I don’t dare to approach them. In the end, one of the Malay guys asks me if I am YC participant, then he invite me join them chatting together. Therefore, I had known 6 more friends. 3 of them are Malaysian; one of them is philippines, and another 2 guys I forget from which country already. They are so friendly and we are chatting together until 4pm while waiting others participants.

We arrived USM at around 11pm, after that they are giving us a brief explanation on what we have to do for the next day. After the main sponsor brief it, one thing comes into my mine: “Selling skin care product? My face is so many pimples, how am I to convince people buy my product?” at that moment, i feels like I should quit this program. But I know, I should not give up easily, and everything will be fine tomorrow, this is what I told myself when I gonna give up.

Start our first challenge in the early morning, our first destination is Komtar( the highest and oldest building in Penang) where have a lot of Malay walking around there. At the moment we arrived, all of us, including others group seems like lost, and don’t know where to go. So we are just walking around for half an hour. After half an hour, we arrived in the bus stop, there are a lot of people waiting bus and therefore we starting to approach people and make sale. Unfortunately, we failed to make sales.

After trying for many times, we still can’t get any sales and this make us so down. After lunch, we change our plan, going to Penang jetty because we know there’s will be a lot of people. But after we reach there, we din make sales also, because we din approach one person at all. What we doing there is just have a look on the ferry and also the Star Cruise that stop at the jetty. Don’t know why Tz don’t want take photo although we already ask him to do so for many times, therefore we din have any photo as memories.
I know, at the moment we arrived in jetty, both of them already give up to make sales, so we just walking around with the map in hand. With the map in hand, we by pass some historical and attractive places in Penang. After walking for almost one hour, finally we back to Komtar again. When we meet others group and we know some of them already get the sales, then we start to worry about it and therefore we start approach people again. But still we get nothing and finally we going to ear Cendol near Komtar. 7pm we going back to USM and there’s no activities at the night, so we sleep quite earlier at that night. Before I sleep, I told myself: “ it’s first day only, don’t give up, tomorrow sure will get something if we try hard.”

Second day of challenge, I am thinking to achieve the target I set last night, but who knows my team member don’t have the same idea with me. They din plan to do any sales for today. 2 versus 1, finally we go out with only few products. Because of we have only one pass in our hand, so we start our journey at Penang by walking. This is the second times I walk nonstop for a long time after Malacca trip with my dear. We walk for almost one hour and it was raining, so we stop at half way and having our lunch there. After waiting there for awhile and the raining was stop, we continue our journey again.

I forgot how long we had walk, finally we arrived our destination, sleeping Buddha ( 睡佛) which is very famous in Penang. After that, we continue our journey to Taman Botanical Garden, before arrived in Taman Botanical, we reach Taman Rekreasi Penang and we have a walk inside there. Besides that, we also saw the temple which is built in the half mountain I forgot what name already.

After walk for around one hour, we arrived in Taman Botanical Garden, there’s a lot of plant at there and we have a look in those plant, some of them are really pretty and some of them not. Maybe because of I don’t know more about plant ba. Since we have no much time and the Botanical Garden is too big so we just stay there for awhile and need to depart back to jetty meet others. But it’s traffic jam and we are late, so we going to change bus from Komtar back to USM.

We sit inside the bus for almost one hour but still not arrived USM, luckily Mr.Lim’s brain is clear and he say we may miss out the bus stop that we should stop, so we go down in the half way. When we go down from bus, we really don’t know where we are. But we still can saw the USM building, so we walk by looking for the building. Again, we walk for half an hour and finally we arrived in USM at 7somthing. 3 of us look so tired because of walking for a long time, but the committee thought we are sad because din make any sales. Feel so guilty.
Because of coming back late, we miss the chance to go Pesta Penang, but talking non-sense at café we both of them until they come back from Pesta Penang.
Again, one day pass, although I am not achieving my target and walking for a long time, but still I feels enjoy because I can went somewhere that I have not been before.

Last chance before the first challenge ends. 3 of us going out with a high spirit after talk with the manager. Plus most of the committees put a high expectation on us and treat us so good, we told ourselves we must make sale in the last day.

Our destination for the day is gurney plaza. At first we survey around gurney plaza and check which shop is suitable for us to approach. We choose some of the shop and go one by one. But ends up, we realize that none of the shop is suitable and gurney plaza is a high class place. Haiz, we are wasting the whole morning in gurney.

Finally, we use the first pass to go Komtar again. We doing direct selling at bus stop again, unfortunately we still can’t get any sales although I had try to approach every people around. This really make us super duper down and finally we give up after eating laska and we are planning to go Kek Lok Si with our second pass. Walking around kek lok si for half an hour, then we are going back to jetty and meet with others group. Because of din make any sales, 3 of us are preparing to go into board room for elimination session.
Only 3 group being call for elimination and 2 group had decided to quit, therefore, we can proceed to next stage easily. At this stage not only we didn’t get any sales, while I also face a lot unhappy question like “How if my face become your face if I used this product?” this really make me so sad and force me to face this truth. Although I already know will facing this problem from the first day when I know we need to do direct selling on skin care product, but when come to reality, I still will feels sad.
